MMS Approves Shell Beaufort Drilling Plan

The door is open for new oil drilling off the north coast of Alaska.

The Minerals Management Service has approved Shell Offshore's plan to drill exploratory wells next year on two leases in the Beaufort Sea.

Environmental groups say the move will hurt polar bears and marine mammals already stressed by the loss of sea ice. But MMS says...
