Nissan North America, Inc. is getting a $1.4 billion loan from the Department of Energy to modify its Smyrna, Tenn., manufacturing plant to produce the all-electric Nissan LEAF, and the lithium-ion battery packs to power it.
Secretary Steven Chu announced the loan this afternoon at the Washington Auto Show. The loan is coming through DOE's loan guarantee program....
