Sierra Club, Others Sue Alaska R.R. and Aurora Energy

The Sierra Club and other environmental groups are bringing The Alaska Railroad and an energy company to court over a coal dust problem, wanting the companies to clean up a pile of coal stockpiles in a town near Anchorage that they say is polluting its harbor.

The coal is waiting for delivery to ships for export to China, Korea and Chile.

The lawsuit alleges that the state-owned railroad and Aurora Energy Services in Seward are violating the federal Clean Water...
